Chandler listened to the door click shut and watched Sasha as she walked down the path. Her military training had taught her to memorise movement and outline and she concentrated on every detail - Sasha’s springy hair, those bedroom eyes, the way her lips shone when she smiled. Chandler respected Sasha’s outspokenness. She’d taken a risk hitting on her like that.

She wondered what it would be like to wake up to the smile? What would it be like to undress that cute body? To slowly slide her fingers under her bra before gently leaning her back onto a pillow and trailing her tongue down the smoothness of her belly before Sasha lifted her bottom to ease the removal of her panties?

“So why did you let her in?” As usual, Ramona’s voice was professional which somehow made it easier for Chandler to reply.

“And you did?”

“What are you talking about? C’mon honey - when was helping someone out a felony?” There was a pause. Then Ramona continued softly, “I think it’s time you realised you aren’t in Iraq any more. The past is back there in the desert, where it belongs. It’s time to move on. Time to give yourself a break.”

“How can I?” Chandler replied angrily. “What the fuck do you know about it?”

“Only what you’ve told me. But it’s enough to know that there’s a time to grieve, and there’s a time to start picking up the pieces. And I’m telling you, hon, that time is now, huh?”

“I can’t just - “

“Listen - we’re not talking about leaping between the sheets. We’re talking taking it easy, maybe meeting somewhere neutral. Maybe having a bit of fun. No commitment, no heavy conversations. Not even a date. What do you think?”

Chandler paused. Ramona was talking sense, as usual. “OK, Rama - I’m not saying no. I’m not, honestly. I don’t even have her address though.”

“Jesus - how crappy is that. Aren’t you an intelligence operative? An ethical hacker as you keep telling me. You can find out where she lives. Port Isaac is not a major metropolis!”

Chandler smiled. Ramona always had a way of doing her thinking for her. “Ok - it’s a deal. I’ll try.”

She switched off her phone and her heart felt lighter for the first time she could remember.
